Daniel’s pick for today’s #ToolTuesday is the Mighty Air Compressor. He says it’s a versatile tool that can be used not only to power pneumatic tools around the shop, but also for putting air in your tires.
This handy tool made it to the top of the list this week because Georgia finally got a notable cold snap, and the tires on both of our cars were in serious need of air. Mine were four pounds low all around, and D’s were a full seven pounds low.
(For those who don’t know: as air cools it becomes denser, and therefore takes up less space. This results in your tire pressure dropping.)
Having your tires properly inflated is critical for SO many reasons. Under inflated tires negatively impact your gas mileage, degrade your tires and ruin your vehicle’s performance.
Ultimately, it’s a safety issue that needs more attention than many people give it.
So instead of having to wait in line at the gas station in the freezing cold, or worse—drive around to find one that actually has a working air pump, grab yourself one of these handy dandy tools.
D says that a small unit is adequate for most. Unless you’re a power user of pneumatic tools like nail guns, staple guns, etc., a simple 1/3 horsepower, two gallon tank will do the trick.
